Moodle Qualifications
Why Moodle Qualifications Matter: The Case for MEQ and MAQ
As the number of Partners offering Moodle Qualifications grows, our focus this month is on the compelling reasons why educators should pursue the Moodle Educator Qualification (MEQ) and administrators should consider the Moodle Administrator Qualification (MAQ).
Why should educators pursue the MEQ?
The MEQ is designed for experienced educators who want to validate and showcase their advanced Moodle teaching skills. Based on the internationally recognised DigCompEdu framework, MEQ-qualified educators demonstrate mastery across: Professional Engagement; Digital Resources; Teaching and Learning; Assessment; Empowering Learners; Facilitating Learners Digital Competence.
An educator should take the MEQ because the reflective character of its assessment allows educators to stop and think, examine, reflect, and improve their teaching practices whilst getting inspired by the digital competences discussed within the Moodle context and the case studies analysed.
For emerging educators with limited experience, this reflective process helps to enhance their pedagogical approaches, integrate technology effectively, and foster a more inclusive learning environment, ultimately leading to better student outcomes. The MEQ provides a structured framework for professional growth.
For educators with extended teaching experience, the MEQ encourages them to think out of the box, moving beyond familiar patterns and repetitive teaching approaches that may limit learning potential. The MEQ challenges experienced educators to rediscover innovation and creativity in their practice.
Why should administrators pursue the MAQ?
The MAQ gives candidates the opportunity for professional development, examining Moodle potentials in cases of site infrastructure, operation, integration, and practice. It is being recognised globally, since it is a Qualification signed by Moodle Lty and supported by Moodle's extensive global Partner network, offering recognition of advanced administrative skills in Moodle site management.
The MAQ helps administrators strengthen their knowledge in areas that they might not often deal with, giving them a more complete knowledge across the eight categories: Implementation; Maintenance and support; Site structure; User management; Site look and feel; Monitoring; and Professional practice.
Similarly to the MEQ, MAQ requires candidates' practical and actual experience managing Moodle platforms, ensuring that qualified administrators can effectively handle complex site configurations and integrations across various educational settings.
Administrators are not just working on specific tasks solving actual administrative issues, but they also gain the opportunity to consolidate their experiential, tacit knowledge in an organised and structured way that helps them refine and deepen it.
Above all, through the challenges presented in the MAQ, administrators learn how to get the most from the open community, documentation, tracker, and other support channels, making them more confident and independent professionals. This develops crucial problem-solving skills that extend beyond technical knowledge.
With the requalification process every two years, the MAQ helps administrators stay up to date with the technological development of Moodle, ensuring their skills remain current and relevant in an ever-evolving digital education landscape.
The Qualifications examine the application of Moodle to support administrators and educators across diverse contexts, including primary, secondary, adult education, and workplace training, ensuring versatility in professional application.
