How can I view the video subtitles?

If you are viewing the YouTube version, you can toggle the subtitles on or off using the CC button on the bottom, right of the video.

To view the subtitles on a downloaded video:

  1. Download both the video (.mp4) file and the video transcript (.srt) file from the Moodle Academy course.
    1. Make sure you save both the mp4 and srt file in the same folder; and
    2. Make sure they both have the same name (except for the file extension - e.g. keep .srt and .mp4 at the end).
  2. When you play the video, if the captions don't play by default, you should be able to select the transcript file manually.

VLC media player is a free, open-source video player that supports subtitles and is available on all major platforms, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS.  If the captions don't automatically display, then from the top menu select Subtitle > Add Subtitle File... > then select the Video Transcript file you downloaded. You can disable or re-enable the subtitles from the Subtitle > Sub Track menu.

If you just want to read the text without the video, you can download the .txt file and open it in any text editor.
